THERMAL TRANSFER RIBBONS

The pigment layer of thermal transfer ribbon consists of a mix of wax , resin and pigment . Varying the portion of wax and resin within the pigment layer gives the printed image different characteristics.

This ribbon will produce a good printet image at a high print speed and low print head temperature across a variety of label stocks , the common being coated and non-coated paper. However the physical properties of the printed image offer limited smear resitance and almost no scratch or chemial resistance .

Wax/resin ribbons requires more energy to produce a printed image than wax transfer ribbon. The result is higher print head temperatures and lower print speeds. The benefits of using a wax/resin ribbon are a better printed image , smear resistance and limited chemical and scratch resistance.

RESIN
TRANSFER RIBBONS

Resin ribbon has a high scratch resistance and is completely smear resistant. It also offers chemical resistance to a wide range of solvents and limited resistance to heat. Is the most expensive type of thermal ribbons and is used in applications demanding high durability printed images .
